If I define parenting as “assuming responsibility for shaping life” it becomes meaningful outside of child-bearing. We shape life everyday with the Others in our world. There’s limited control over the level of other’s participation in helping along our direction. In a sense, we are individuals and all single parents, and the task of parenting is one of maintaining vision.
